Appeal by "Al-Fath Mosque Incidents "defendants
The Court of Cassation, the High Court, number of defendants 437
Charges: Calling on the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group and its affiliated elements to organize a gathering in front of al-Fath Mosque, a call they respond to by organizing marches across Ramses and Al-Galaa streets. They gathered in Ramses Square in front of Al-Azbakiya Police Station and the surrounding roads. They also broke into Al-Azbakiya Police stations and threw Molotov cocktails and tear gas canisters therein. They heavily fired their automatic weapons towards security forces and citizens, before they staged a sit-in inside the mosque.
Sentences they received: life imprisonment sentence against 22 defendants in presentia and 21 others in absentia. 17 defendants were sentenced to 15 years in high-security prison, 54 others were sentenced, in presentia, to 10 years in high-security prison, and 13 others in absentia. 88 defendants were sentenced, in absentia, to 10 years in prison, 216 defendants were sentenced, in presentia, to 5 years in rigorous prison, and 6 others to five years in prison.
