ANHRI said: “The security crackdowns launched by state apparatus in the recent period and the arrest of a number of activists, journalists and a former parliamentarian coordinating to run in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections, on the pretext of plotting to topple the state under the scheme “Hope Plan”, constitute a clear and explicit declaration that prison in Egypt has become closer to opponents than ever before”.

ANHRI called on the Egyptian authorities to respect the dignity of prisoners by improving the conditions of inmates and detainees in prisons, enabling them to receive the necessary medical health care and treatment, and by stopping to punish dissidents with protracted pretrial detention.
