The Freedom of Expression for Labor and Social Movements program asserts that labor and social protests continues to take place during March with a variety in their methods, according to the Protests Index.

The programs said: “In spite of the climate of mistrust and intimidation practiced by the government against protesters, this month saw a number of distinctive protests, including the first-year high school students protesting against the malfunction of the examination platform. Also, engineers and workers at El-Nasr Contracting Company staged a sit-in in protest against the nonpayment of their dues, with workers employed abroad and residents of Garden joining the list.”

In March’s Index, the Freedom of Expression for Labor and Social Movements program monitored 48 protests, including 38 social protests, and 10 labor and professional protests.

Committing suicide due to poor living conditions topped the methods used in social protests with 10 suicide cases. Vigils and protests also went up reaching 10 cases in the social side and 5 in the labor one.

As for the geographical distribution of protests, Cairo topped the labor and social protests with 16 protests, including 11 social protests and 5 labor protests. Giza witnessed 8 protests, including 7 social protests and one labor protest.

With regard to the sectorial distribution, the education and scientific research sector topped the list of social protests with 6 protests, while health sector topped the labor protests with 4 protests took place during March.
