Cairo: October 2, 2019

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) said today that ten days have gone by since wellknown vlogger Mohamed Oxygen was detained at the National Security headquarters in Maadi, his family or his lawyers from ANHRI were not informed of any accusations or investigations, and although the Public Prosecutor was notified of the incident, the crime of illegal detention continues.

During the implementation of the precautionary measures at al-Basateen Police Station on Saturday, September 21, 2019, Mohamed Oxygen informed ANHRI’s director that a National Security officer came to take him to the National Security headquarters in Maadi, then his phone was switched off, and he disappeared since then, without being brought before the prosecution in case he is accused of any crime and without informing his family or lawyers from ANHRI.

Although three telegraphs were sent 10 days ago to the Public Prosecutor, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of justice respectively, “of which we have official photocopies”, yet no investigation was opened into the incident, nor communication established, nor was he released, and respect for the law is absent.

ANHRI’s Executive Director Gamal Eid said: “We followed the law, told the prosecutor what the National Security officers did, and we waited for the public prosecutor to take any action to stop such encroachment on the law for 10 days to no avail! So who should restore Justice to Egypt?”.
