Cairo, Aug. 15<\/span>th<\/span>, 2018<\/span><\/p>\n The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) stated today that while the president of the republic is pardoning the accused of murdering; millionaire Hisham Talaat Mustafa and the accused of bullying; Sabri Nakhnoukh, leftist opinion-prisoner Gamal Abdel Fattah, who has been in custody for more than five months, is being deprived of health care, causing his health to deteriorate and threatening his life.<\/span><\/p>\n The 72-year-old leftist pharmacist was arrested for criticizing the so-called presidential election, and then was interrogated without a lawyer, charged with: the establishment of a terrorist group and promoting the ideas of a terrorist group via Facebook, and spreading false news. <\/span><\/p>\n It was decided to hold him in pretrial detention without confronting him with the name of the terrorist group he was accused of founding or the ideas he allegedly promoted, or the false news attributed to him, which neither him nor his lawyers have yet known.<\/span><\/p>\n He is still being held in custody by successive extension orders.<\/span><\/p>\n Since his imprisonment for these illegal charges, he has been abused, depriving him of his most basic rights as an opinion-prisoner, as well as wasting the basic rule; \u201cThe accused is innocent until proved guilty\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n ANHRI holds the Ministry of the Interior fully responsible for the safety of Dr. Gamal Abdel Fattah, and does not absolve the State Security Prosecution either, which condones the Ministry of Interior’s decisions not to provide health care.<\/span><\/p>\n
