About ANHRI \u2013 The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), is a legal institution with lawyers and researchers working on defending Freedom of Expression in Egypt and the Arab world, especially Freedom of the Press as a gateway to empower and give access to the rest of human rights.<\/p>\n

We support and defend the right to express all opinions, regardless of whether we agree or disagree with the opinion itself.<\/p>\n

When was ANHRI established?<\/p>\n

On March 28, 2004 The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information announced its official launch http:\/\/anhri.net\/press\/04\/pr040329.shtml<\/a>\u00a0 \u201d<\/p>\n

What does ANHRI do?:<\/p>\n

We defend Freedom of Expression through:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Providing support and legal defense to victims of violations of freedom of expression of all kinds.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Training journalists \u2013 especially young journalists \u2013 online activists on credibility, professional writing, and how to avoid publishing crimes.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Campaigns to defend prisoners of opinion.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Documenting the violations and publishing reports and studies that reveal these violations and making recommendations on how to avoid them.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Urging governments, political groups, and businesses to respect the values of human rights, particularly freedom of expression, and to uphold international laws and conventions.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Making initiatives on media reform and the reform of institutions entrusted with the implementation of the law.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Raising the awareness of citizens with regards to their rights and how to defend them, and how to gain supporters and volunteers for our work.<\/p>\n

How does ANHRI work?<\/p>\n

Since it was established in 2004, till now \u201c2015\u201d ANHRI has undergone several developments<\/p>\n

First: Since 2004 till August 2006:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Creating a human rights portal, which shares the publications of various human rights organizations, whether Arab, International or regional, categorized by right and by country. ANHRI began publishing for 15 organizations in 2004, and the number of institutions reached about 220 organizations on a regular basis and around 150 organizations irregularly.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Issuing a weekly newsletter on the most important human rights issues in the Arab World:\u00a0 http:\/\/anhri.net\/newslatter\/<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Issuing reports on \u201cThe freedom to use the Internet\u201d in the Arab region and how the Arab governments deal with the Internet and its users. http:\/\/anhri.net\/reports\/net2004\/<\/p>\n

Second: From 2006 \u2013 2008:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Continuing the development of the website and introducing a calendar for human rights events and international awards for human rights defenders.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Issuing the first annual report by ANHRI on \u201cFreedom of Expression in the Arab World\u201d:\u00a0 http:\/\/old.openarab.net\/node\/203<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Launching \u201cKatib\u201d blog to create an open space for the youth who want to write blog posts without any intervention or censorship.\u00a0 http:\/\/www.katib.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Launching the first website on Freedom of the Internet in the Arab World: http:\/\/openarab.net\/ar\/<\/p>\n

Third: From 2008 \u2013 2010:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Launching the first website for publishing the complaints and concerns of Arab citizens:\u00a0\u00a0 http:\/\/humum.net\/<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Launching the first human rights library in Egypt: http:\/\/maktaba.anhri.net\/<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Launching a website dedicated to defending Arab prisoners of opinion: http:\/\/gohod.net\/<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beginning to provide legal defense on freedom of expression through a specialized unit of lawyers, and launching a website \u201cQadaya\u201d which is specialized in trials and legal defense issues:\u00a0 http:\/\/qadaya.net\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Fourth: From 2010 till 2014:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Issuing \u201cWasla\u201d (Arabic for link) newspaper, which is the first newspaper to contain what the bloggers and Internet activists publish, with the objective of reaching out to the older generations and creating a link between the two generations. 81 issues were published:\u00a0\u00a0 http:\/\/wasla.anhri.net\/?cat=9<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beginning to document the cases of the Revolution, and the victims and providing legal support to the civilian victims facing military trials and monitoring the democratic path through \u201cLawyers for Democracy\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n

Fifth: Since mid 2015 till now:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After ANHRI has accomplished its role in publishing the work \u201cstatements and reports\u201d of human rights organizations, and since most organizations have their own websites now, ANHRI will begin to expand its role in publishing news and issues related to freedom of expression and freedom of the press, and will stop the publishing the work of other human rights organizations except for those related to freedom of expression, and will create a network of editors and specialists who work freedom of the press and freedom of the Internet issues in the Arab World and in Egypt.<\/p>\n

ANHRI\u2019s team:<\/p>\n

ANHRI began its work with a team of four \u201c2 lawyers + 2 researchers\u201dand now ANHRI\u2019s team has expanded to include more than 25 employees, between lawyers, researchers, IT and administrative, as well as a wide network of volunteers in Egypt and the Arab World.<\/p>\n

ANHRI\u2019s website:<\/p>\n

ANHRI\u2019s website is the first website in the Arab World in the area of human rights, some other websites related to its work were born from it such as, humum, the prisoners of opinion website, the freedom to use the Internet website and qadaya\u2026 and the average monthly visitors to these websites amounts to about 5 million visitors.<\/p>\n
