Issued decisions
• Yesterday, Egypt’s Public Prosecutor ordered an investigation into a complaint from a young woman regarding sexual abuse inside the Fairmont Nile City hotel. The decision came after the Public Prosecution received a memo from the National Council for Women (NCW) that includes a complaint sent to the Council by a female who was allegedly gang-raped in 2014 in Fairmont Nile City Hotel in Cairo. The complaint also includes testimonies of witnesses reporting the incident.

• Mohamed Al-Qasaas, deputy head of “Egypt Strong” Party has been ordered to be released after serving more than two years in pretrial detention.

• New Cairo Misdemeanor Court adjourned the retrial of counselor Hesham Geneina, former head of the Central Auditing Authority (CAA), in the case known in the media as “statements insulting the state” for the hearing of 26 August. It’s worth mentioning that the Court of Cassation had rescinded the first degree ruling sentencing Geneina to 5 years in prison and accordingly ordered his retrial.

• Cairo Criminal Court decided to replace the pretrial detention order issued against defendant Ahmed Shaaban with precautionary measures pending Case No. 1413 of 2019 State Security.

• Cairo Criminal Court decided to renew the detention of Khalil Abdel-Hamid and Mohamed Walid for 45 days pending Case No. 1358 of 2019 State Security.

• Cairo Criminal Court decided to adjourn the detention renewal session of Shady Abu Zeid pending Case No. 1956 of 2019 State Security for the hearing of next Saturday due to the inability to bring him from his jail to the courthouse.

• The Supreme Public Prosecution has finished the investigation with Mohamed Al-Sayed Khamis and 2 other defendants after serving two years and two months in pretrial detention pending Case No. 844 of 2018 and decided to renew their detention.

Decisions not issued until 5 pm

• Cairo Criminal Court has finished considering the detention renewal sessions of Ahmed Khaled Abdel-Qader, Mohamed Youssef Mahmoud Shaarawy, Osama Mohamed Ezzat and Mohamed Makhlouf Mohamed pending Case No. 1413 of 2019 State Security, but hasn’t reached a decision so far.
