The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) today issued a legal position paper entitled: “The Trial at the Ministry.. On the trials held in the Ministry of Interior’s facilities rather than in those of the Ministry of Justice” Which deals with the loss of one of the most important principles of a fair trial, the principle of a public hearing, and the absence of the sense of fairness of the trial when held in facilities controlled by the Ministry of Interior rather than having an ordinary trial, which is supposed to be held in courts that follow the Ministry of Justice.

The legal paper also deals with the circumstances of the defendants and their placement in sound proof glass cages, which often prevents them from hearing what is going on in a trial in which they are the most important actors or prevents them from communicating with their lawyers.

ANHRI’s lawyers have observed that more than 70% of trials of a political nature were held at facilities run and controlled by the Ministry of Interior, such as: The Police Cadets Institute, The Police Academy, Giza Security Camp and 15 May Prison.
